Day 16 - uMlalazi to St Lucia, iSimangaliso (8/10)

Rudely awakened this morning at 6 by vervet monkeys dancing on the roof tent; a smart rap or two on the ceiling sent them scattering back into the branches from where they looked resentfully down. Not for long though - they soon moved on to try to break into a nearby tent

We've come north (via an area containing enormous Raphia Australis palms)

to another national park, this time in the World Heritage iSimangaliso (Zulu for "miracle") Wetland Park, a 328,000 hectare reserve.  We went out this afternoon on the St Lucia river (we're very close to the estuary to see the wildlife (of whose presence the small town is very keen to remind you, to ensure that no one meets a sticky end either walking around after dark

or by taking a dip at any time of the day.

After a beautiful fish eagle-accompanied sunset,

a full moon has now risen
